Τhe Laboratory of Hydrology and Water Resources Development (HWRM) of the Department of Water Resources Management and Env. Engineering of the School of Civil Engineering., is centre of excellence on water resources analysis and urban water systems management with an active role at national and European levels. Of interest to HWRM is the domain of hydroinformatics and the design and modelling of urban water systems.

HWRM is actively involved in stochastic hydrological analysis and simulation, water resources assessment, extreme event modelling (floods, droughts) and assessment of their consequences, climate and its interactions with water, development of advanced multi-objective optimization models, critical water infrastructure protection, cyber-physical security for water systems, water in the circular economy, reuse and recycling and water-energy systems.

HWRM is a member of European Networks, such as EurAqua, the OpenMI Association, Watershare and Water Europe and supports the European Topic Centre for Water (ETC-Water) of the European Environment Agency (EEA).

End users of laboratory’ s work include: The Ministries of Regional Development and Decentralization, Infrastructure, Transportation and Networks, Environment, Energy and Climate Change and Rural Development, the Hellenic National Meteorological Service, the Public Power Corporation, the Athens Water Supply and Sewerage Company, Municipal Enterprises for Water Supply and Sewerage from Greece and other EU member states.
